Free Cricut Font Licenses

We all have personal projects where we bend the rules and copy a little too closely to popular trademarks. Who hasn't used their Cricut to make something Disney-themed for the family? Be aware – just because you can find a free font online doesn't mean they have the right to share it.

There are plenty of free fonts for Cricut that include commercial use licenses. That is vital if you are making and selling your own designs and handmade art. Always make sure to read about commercial use licenses to protect yourself and your business. If you profit from others' designs and fonts, be sure to research copyright infringement.

That said, I'm not here to be the craft police. This post simply shares answers to popular questions. For example, let's answer “What is the FRIENDS font called and where can I find it?”

What to Look For when Downloading Fonts for Cricut

After you check licenses and cover yourself from any trademark infringement, there is an important next step beginner Cricut users may not think about. Before downloading every cool font you immediately love, consider how you plan to use it.

For Cricut writing fonts, the natural handwritten look comes from single-line fonts. Many of the thick or patterned fonts will actually become outlines or take much longer than you expect when trying to use Cricut pens.

Deco Neue Wilde may be a font you regret downloading for both Cricut cutting and writing projects!

Additionally, for Cricut cut fonts, you might love a patterned or grunge-look to a bold lettered font. If you are not thinking it through, you may forget how many small pieces that might cause as a cut-file, and how long you will be weeding the design — if it even cuts successfully!

Start with simple free fonts that look easy to use for writing and cutting projects.

Trusted Font Websites For Cricut Crafters

Personally, because I make and sell designs and physical products, I try to stick with popular crafting websites that often include Commercial Use Licenses with both their paid and free fonts and SVG design files.

Here are my two favorites, both which I check weekly for new freebies!

  • FontBundles – FontBundles releases a new Free Font of the Week every single week. They definitely have me hooked in to checking in weekly to make sure I don't miss an update or a great freebie. If you're not interested in the font of the week though, they have hundreds of free fonts with commercial use licenses that you can download at any time. Looking for something incredibly special, or ready to invest a few dollars? There are always incredible bundle sales and amazing deals (including a giant, super popular $1 sale they host for just ONE hour each month.) Oh, and they are the sister website to DesignBundles so when you want free SVG files, you'll know right where to go!
  • CreativeFabrica – This artistic platform has fonts, designs and even extras in terms of mockups and templates from graphic designers around the world. They have freebies and daily gifts, and also come with commercial use licenses. In fact, many fonts and designs on CreativeFabrica even include a license for Print-on-Demand, which typically does not come standard in the design world. This site also has plenty to purchase if you are looking for something specific, but the best use of your money on this website is investing in the monthly subscription. Why pay $20 for a font when $12 a month can get you unlimited downloads across the site?!
Font Banner - Free Fonts

One of the most well-known websites for free fonts is DaFont.com. You'll hear people in all crafting groups refer each other here, and you will always find what you're looking for on this site.

That said, this is a website where people around the world submit their own fonts to share. Some of these blatantly copy trademarks, and even if they are labeled “Free for Personal Use,” you should not assume the owner truly has the right to authorize use of the font on any level.

I include this site because it still is a good resource that I trust and download from once in awhile. And, like I said earlier – it's the one to go to if you're not worried about breaking the rules and need to find some knockoff text.

Pin your favorite cover to share the freebies with your crafting friends – and to come back over and over again!

What's That Font?

Speaking of knock-offs, if you insist on finding “brand name” fonts, here are some of the popular ones that people always ask about. Again, I am not condoning using copycats of trademarked designs – I'm just giving you the answers you would find if you Googled “what's that font.”

All of these are through www.DaFont.com.
